Why We Launched the Save the Homies Initiative — And What Comes Next

Black men are dying from prostate cancer at nearly twice the rate of white men.
That’s not just a statistic. That’s our uncles, fathers, sons, barbers, mentors, and homies — gone too soon. And it’s not because they weren’t strong. It’s because the system wasn’t built to catch the cancer early, treat it affordably, or educate our communities about it in time.
That’s why we launched the Save the Homies Initiative, a project powered by My City My Health, to raise awareness, spark conversation, and push for real policy change that could save lives.
What We’re Fighting For
Our goal is bold and clear:
To save 1,000 Black men from prostate cancer.
We’re doing that through:
- Storytelling: Our upcoming Save the Homies Documentary will spotlight real stories from Black men across the country.
- Education: We’re breaking down the facts in a way that resonates with people.
- Policy Pressure: We’re advocating for state-level legislation that makes prostate cancer screenings more accessible, especially for high-risk groups like Black men over 40.

Let’s Talk Policy
,screening saves lives, but insurance red tape, limited outreach, and unequal access keep far too many Black men from getting checked early.
We're pushing for:
- Lowering the screening age for Black men to 40
- Insurance coverage mandates for prostate-specific antigen (PSA) tests
- Funding for community-based screening programs in high-risk ZIP codes
Health is a right, especially when it comes to cancer that’s treatable if caught early.
